Little Women is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888). The book Little Women was written and set in the Alcott family home, Orchard House, in Concord, Massachusetts. Little Women was published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. The novel Little Women follows the lives of four sisters – Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March – and is loosely based on Louisa May Alcott's childhood experiences with her three sisters.
Little Women was a fiction novel for girls that veered from the normal writings for children, especially girls, at the time. Little Women has three major themes:” domesticity, work, and true love. All of them are interdependent and each is necessary to the achievement of a heroine’s individual identity.

Little Women movie trailer online free (1994):

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott: Little Women itself “has been read as a romance or as a quest, or both. It has been read as a family drama that validates virtue over wealth.” Little Women has been read “as a means of escaping that life by women who knew its gender constraints only too well.” Louisa May Alcott “combines many conventions of the sentimental novel with crucial ingredients of Romantic children’s fiction, creating a new form of which Little Women is a unique model.” Elbert argued that within Little Women the first vision of the “American Girl” and that her multiple aspects were found in the differing March sisters.

Little Women movie excerpts online free (1994):

Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women “in record time for money.” Since Louisa May Alcott never married and wrote that she was “often lonely and in ill health,” some people questioned how she was able to write so beautifully and reflectively about "American home life.” (Summary by Wikipedia)

He hates Christmas, calling it "humbug".

Alice in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. The book Alice in Wonderland tells of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world (Wonderland) populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults and children. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is considered to be of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre, and its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been influential in popular culture and literature, especially in fantasy genres.

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Down the Rabbit Hole: Alice is feeling bored while sitting on the riverbank with her sister, when she notices a talking, clothed White Rabbit with a pocket watch run past. Alice follows it down a rabbit hole when suddenly she falls a long way to a curious hall with many locked doors of all sizes. Alice finds a small key to a door too small for her to fit through, but through it she sees an attractive garden. Alice then discovers a bottle on a table labelled "DRINK ME", the contents of which cause her to shrink too small to reach the key which Alice has left on the table. A cake with "EAT ME" on it causes her to grow to such a tremendous size her head hits the ceiling...

Gulliver's Travels (1726, amended 1735), is a novel by Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift that is both a satire on human nature and a parody of the "travellers' tales" literary sub-genre. Gulliver's Travels is Jonathan Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature.
The book Gulliver's Travels begins with a short preamble in which Lemuel Gulliver, in the style of books of the time, gives a brief outline of his life and history before his voyages. Gulliver enjoys travelling, although it is that love of travel that is his downfall.
During his first voyage, Gulliver is washed ashore after a shipwreck and finds himself a prisoner of a race of tiny people, less than 6 inches tall, who are inhabitants of the island country of Lilliput...

Gulliver's Travels movie trailer online free (1996):

Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift: After giving assurances of his good behaviour, Gulliver is given a residence in Lilliput and becomes a favourite of the court. From there, the book follows Gulliver's observations on the Court of Lilliput. He is also given the permission to roam around the city on a condition that he would not harm their subjects. Gulliver assists the Lilliputians to subdue their neighbours, the Blefuscudians, by stealing their fleet. However, he refuses to reduce the island nation of Blefuscu to a province of Lilliput, displeasing the King and the court. Gulliver is convicted of treason for "making water" in the capital (even though he was putting out a fire and saving countless lives)--among other "crimes."

Gulliver is charged with treason and sentenced to be blinded. With the assistance of a kind friend, Gulliver escapes to Blefuscu, where he spots and retrieves an abandoned boat and sails out to be rescued by a passing ship which safely takes him back home... (Summary by Wikipedia)

Black Beauty by Anna Sewell is a fictional autobiographical memoir told by a horse, who recounts many tales, both of cruelty and kindness.
The title page of the first edition states that it was "Translated from the Original Equine by Anna Sewell." Black Beauty was composed in the last years of Anna Sewell's life, during which she was confined to her house as an invalid. After its publication in 1877, Anna Sewell lived just long enough to see her first and only novel become an immediate bestseller, as well as it encouraging the better treatment of many cruelly-treated animals.
Although initially intended for people who work with horses, it soon became a children's classic. While outwardly teaching animal welfare, it also contains allegorical lessons about how to treat people with kindness, sympathy and respect...

Black Beauty movie trailer online free:

Black Beauty, The Autobiography of a Horse by Anna Sewell: The story Black Beauty is narrated in the first person as an autobiographical memoir told by a horse named Black Beauty—beginning with his carefree days as a colt on an English farm with his mother, to his difficult life pulling cabs in London, to his happy retirement in the country. Along the way, he meets with many hardships and recounts many tales of cruelty and kindness. Each short chapter recounts an incident in Black Beauty's life containing a lesson or moral typically related to the kindness, sympathy, and understanding treatment of horses, with Sewell's detailed observations and extensive descriptions of horse behaviour lending the novel a good deal of verisimilitude.

Black Beauty full movie online free:

The book Black Beauty describes conditions among London horse-drawn taxicab drivers, including the financial hardship caused to them by high licence fees and low, legally fixed fares. A page footnote in some editions says that soon after the book was published, the difference between 6-day taxicab licences (not allowed to trade on Sundays) and 7-day taxicab licences (allowed to trade on Sundays) was abolished and the taxicab licence fee was much reduced... The Jungle Book (1894) is a collection of stories by British Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling. The stories of the The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling were first published in magazines in 1893–4. The original publications contain illustrations, some by Rudyard Kipling's father, John Lockwood Kipling. Rudyard Kipling was born in India and spent the first six years of his childhood there. After about ten years in England, he went back to India and worked there for about six-and-half years. These stories of the The Jungle Book were written when Rudyard Kipling lived in Vermont.

The Jungle Book movie trailer online free (1994):

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling: The tales in The Jungle Book (and also those in The Second Jungle Book which followed in 1895, and which includes five further stories about Mowgli) are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of The Law of the Jungle, for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. Rudyard Kipling put in them nearly everything he knew or "heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle." Other readers have interpreted the work as allegories of the politics and society of the time.

The Jungle Book full movie online free:

The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of an abandoned "man cub" Mowgli who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The most famous of the other stories are probably "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi", the story of a heroic mongoose, and "Toomai of the Elephants", the tale of a young elephant-handler... (Summary by Wikipedia)

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is a very well-known and popular story (published 1876) concerning American youth. Mark Twain's lively tale of the scrapes and adventures of boyhood is set in St. Petersburg, Missouri, where Tom Sawyer and his friend Huckleberry Finn have the kinds of adventures many boys can imagine: racing bugs during class, impressing girls, with fights and stunts in the schoolyard, getting lost in a cave, and playing pirates on the Mississippi river.
In the 1840s an imaginative and mischievous boy named Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother, Sid, in the Mississippi River town of Petersburg, Missouri. After playing hooky from school on Friday and dirtying his clothes in a fight, Tom Sawyer is made to whitewash the fence as punishment all of the next day.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain: At first, Tom Sawyer is disheartened by having to forfeit his day off. However, Tom Sawyer soon cleverly persuades his friends to trade him small treasures for the privilege of doing his work. Tom Sawyer trades the treasures he got by tricking his friends for whitewashing for tickets given out in Sunday school for memorizing Bible verses, which can be used to claim a Bible as a prize. Tom Sawyer received enough tickets to be given the Bible. However, Tom Sawyer loses much of his glory when, in response to a question to show off his knowledge, he incorrectly answers that the first disciples were David and Goliath.

Tom Sawyer falls in love with Becky Thatcher, a new girl in town, and persuades her to get "engaged" by kissing him. Becky kisses Tom Sawyer, but their romance collapses when she learns that Tom Sawyer has been "engaged" previously — to a girl named Amy Lawrence... (Summary by Wikipedia)

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884) by Mark Twain is one of the truly great American novels, beloved by children, adults, and literary critics alike. The book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn tells the story of "Huck" Finn (first introduced as Tom Sawyer's sidekick in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer), his friend Jim, and their journey down the Mississippi River on a raft. Both are on the run, Huck from his drunk and abusive father, and Jim as a runaway slave.
As Huck and Jim drift down the river, they meet many colorful characters and have many great adventures. The true heart of the story The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, however, is the friendship between Huck and Jim.

A constant theme throughout the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is Huck's internal struggle between what he has been taught, that helping a runaway slave is a sin, and what he truly believes, that Jim is a good man and it couldn't possibly be wrong to help him.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was unique at the time of its publication (1884) because it is narrated by Huck himself and is written in the numerous dialects common in the area and time in which the book is set. Although the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was originally intended as a sequel to the children's book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, as Mark Twain wrote Adventures of Huckleberry Finn it progressed into a more serious work.

From The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn full movie online free:

Mark Twain's views on slavery and other social issues of the time become clear through the words, thoughts, and actions of Huck Finn. The book has always been the subject of great controversy, and according to The American Library Association it was fifth on the list of most frequently challenged books in the 1990s. Grimm's Fairy Tales (German: Kinder- und Hausmärchen) is a collection of German origin fairy tales first published in 1812 by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. On December 20, 1812, the Grimm Brothers published the first volume of the first edition, containing 86 stories; the second volume of 70 stories followed in 1814. The influence of the books Grimm's Fairy Tales was widespread. The tales themselves have been put to many uses. The work of the Brothers Grimm influenced other collectors, both inspiring them to collect tales...

Grimm's Fairy Tales movie trailer online free (2005):

Grimm's Fairy Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm: The first volumes of the Grimm's Fairy Tales were much criticized because, although they were called "Children's Tales", they were not regarded as suitable for children, both for the scholarly information included and the subject matter. Many changes through the editions – such as turning the wicked mother of the first edition in Snow White and Hansel and Gretel to a stepmother – were probably made with an eye to such suitability. They removed sexual references, such as Rapunzel's innocently asking why her dress was getting tight around her belly, and thus naively revealing her pregnancy and the prince's visits to her stepmother, but, in many respects, violence, particularly when punishing villains, was increased...

In 1825 Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their Kleine Ausgabe or "small edition," a selection of 50 tales designed for child readers. This children's version went through ten editions between 1825 and 1858... (Summary by Wikipedia)

Oliver Twist is the second novel by English author Charles Dickens, published by Richard Bentley in 1838. The story Oliver Twist is about an orphan, Oliver Twist, who endures a miserable existence in a workhouse and then is placed with an undertaker. He escapes and travels to London where he meets the Artful Dodger, leader of a gang of juvenile pickpockets. Oliver Twist is led to the lair of their elderly criminal trainer Fagin, naively unaware of their unlawful activities. Oliver Twist is notable for Dickens' unromantic portrayal of criminals and their sordid lives. The book Oliver Twist exposed the cruel treatment of many a waif-child in London, which increased international concern in what is sometimes known as "The Great London Waif Crisis": the large number of orphans in London in the Dickens era.

Oliver Twist full movie online free (1982):

Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens: Oliver Twist is born into a life of poverty and misfortune in a workhouse in an unnamed town (although when originally published in Bentley's Miscellany in 1837 the town was called Mudfog and said to be within 70 miles north of London). Orphaned almost from his first breath by his mother’s death in childbirth and his father’s unexplained absence, Oliver Twist is meagerly provided for under the terms of the Poor Law, and spends the first nine years of his life at a baby farm in the 'care' of a woman named Mrs. Mann. Oliver is brought up with little food and few comforts. Around the time of Oliver's ninth birthday, Mr. Bumble, a parish beadle, removes Oliver from the baby farm and puts him to work picking oakum at the main workhouse. Oliver Twist, who toils with very little food, remains in the workhouse for six months. One day, the desperately hungry boys decide to draw lots; the loser must ask for another portion of gruel. The task falls to Oliver, who at the next meal tremblingly comes forward, bowl in hand, and makes his famous request: "Please, sir, I want some more."

A great uproar ensues. The board of well-fed gentlemen who administer the workhouse hypocritically offer five pounds to any person wishing to take on the boy as an apprentice... (Summary by Wikipedia)

At first, Mary is her usual self, sour, disliking the large house, the people within it, and most of all the vast stretch of moor, which seems scrubby and gray after the winter. She is told that she must stay confined to her two rooms and that nobody will bother much with her and she must amuse herself... (Summary by Wikipedia)

Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up (1904) is the title of Scottish playwright and novelist Sir James Matthew Barrie's most famous play, and Peter and Wendy (1911) is the title of J. M. Barrie's novelisation of it. Both tell the story of Peter Pan, a mischievous little boy who can fly, and his adventures on the island of Neverland with Wendy Darling and her brothers, the fairy Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, the Indian princess Tiger Lily, and the pirate Captain Hook. The play and novel were both inspired by J. M. Barrie's friendship with the Llewelyn Davies family. The novel Peter Pan follows the play closely, but includes a final chapter not part of the original play.
In 1929, J. M. Barrie gave the copyright of the Peter Pan works to Great Ormond Street Hospital, a children's hospital in London.

Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie: Although the character appeared previously in J. M. Barrie's book The Little White Bird, the play and the novel based on it contain the portion of the Peter Pan mythos that is best known. The two versions differ in some details of the story, but have much in common. In both versions Peter Pan makes night-time calls on Kensington, London, listening in on Mrs. Mary Darling's bedtime stories by the open window. One night Peter Pan is spotted and, while trying to escape, he loses his shadow...

Peter Pan full movie online free (2003):

On returning to claim his shadow, Peter Pan wakes Mary's daughter, Wendy Darling. Wendy succeeds in re-attaching his shadow to him, and Peter Pan learns that she knows lots of bedtime stories. He invites her to Neverland to be a mother to his gang, the Lost Boys, children who were lost in Kensington Gardens. Wendy agrees, and her brothers John and Michael go along.
Their magical flight to Neverland is followed by many adventures. The children are blown out of the air by a cannon and Wendy is nearly killed by the Lost Boy Tootles. Peter Pan and the Lost Boys build a little house for Wendy to live in while she recuperates (a structure that, to this day, is called a Wendy House.) Soon John and Michael adopt the ways of the Lost Boys.
Peter Pan welcomes Wendy to his underground home, and she immediately assumes the role of mother figure. Peter Pan takes the Darlings on several adventures, the first truly dangerous one occurring at Mermaids' Lagoon. At Mermaids' Lagoon, Peter Pan and the Lost Boys save the princess Tiger Lily and become involved in a battle with the pirates, including the evil Captain Hook. Peter Pan is wounded when Hook claws him. He believes he will die, stranded on a rock when the tide is rising, but he views death as "an awfully big adventure". Luckily, a bird allows him to use her nest as a boat, and Peter sails home... (Summary from Wikipedia)
